Is the COOLMAX CP-500T EPS12V 500W Power Supply a descent quality PSU?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817159040

It looks good on paper and the price is very good. It also has mostly very good reviews. But I didn't see it on the PSU reference list. Is Coolmax an ok brand? Anyone have experience with this PSU? Thanks.

Coolmax, all crap. Good rule of thumb. If it's not on the psu reference list, it's probably crap.

Ok, thanks for the input. I did see 3 Coolmax PSUs on the reference list, though. Are these crap too?

Not to argue or anything, but Mpilch has 3 Coolmax PSUs on the reference list. Maybe those three are the only good units from Coolmax. Granted the one in question isn't one of the three.

@OP: I would recommend staying away from this one. Look at the reference list again and select another one that meets your requirements. FSP Fortron would be a good and relatively cheap brand to get.

Oops, missed those, sorry.

Let me rephrase. That psu, crap.

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll likely go with the HIPER HPU-4M480-PS ATX12V v2.2 480W Power Supply when it's back in stock.

I am curious. How is the total +12v amps listed on the PSU reference list determined? It seems that it is always lower than the sum of the +12v rails listed.

That's because the total amperage of the +12v rails isn't the sum of the rails. See the amps listed per rail are not the max each rail receives. They are the max each rail can handle without failing. You must find the total wattage being supplied to the +12v rails in order to calculate the amperage. I don't want to go into detail but you can read about it in the PSU 101 sticky at the top of this section. I have it all laid out nice with examples. Pluss you will learn many other helpful things as well.

Oops. I guess I should have actually read the sticky before asking the question. Thanks.
