Problems with voice mail allerts

I have a friend who is having problems with voice mail allerts.
Sometimes they come in quickly, and sometimes they
are hours slow.

Whats really interesting is that my sms messages to my friend always
seem go though immediately.

Is there anyway to get the voice mail messages to appear quickly?
