Hi, I have used the 'OEM provided' CD of Norton Ghost 9.0.2.3981 for the first time to prepare a verified manual image of my C drive on 2 DVD +RW Philips disks burned at 4x with Nero 6.3.1. Operating system XP SP2.
1. Will the computer really boot up from these if it suffers some form of malfunction and won't boot normally?
The "electronic manual" suggests yes but it also mentions the use of the original Ghost 9.0 CD as a boot medium if the Ghost image will not boot.
2. Setting F2 boot sequence to CD drive, followed by Hard Drive, then removable media, and with DVD Image in the drive, I was unable to ascertain exactly what had effected the boot up. The CD Drive blinked as usual during boot but showed no unusual activity. How can one check that the DVD image is actually effective and being used for boot up?
3. The "manual" also states the Image files can be viewed either in the Back Up Image Browser or Windows Explorer. My back up will react to neither but sits there as one large .V2i file linked to the sV2i file on the second disk. It either asks me to keep interchanging the two image DVDs without opening the image or simply ejects the disk from the drive.
4. I have 2x 60GB disks (NTFS) C and D, partioned with Acronis 9.0 build 518 to give a dual boot system with a "home" partition on part of the C drive containing all the Office programs etc and a second "music partition" using a separate partition on the C drive (not visible from the first partition) for music recording and synthesiser programs. Both the home and music partitions see the D drive which is used just for data.
Will my Ghost Image of the C drive include only the "home" partition of the C drive, or will it also include the second C partition?
Presumably it will not include the D drive although this is part of the "home" partition? The size of the Image doesn't really provide an answer because of undefined compression of the data when making the Image.
5. I note that the forum has differing views on Ghost 9.0 and Acronis 9.0. My Acronis 9.0 does not include any True Image option but it does offer a boot disk on either floppy or CD. Presumably this would be useful if the Norton Ghost images won't boot? Would I then be able to access the Norton Ghost Image to replace any damaged files as I can't open the image at the moment?
