Who cares about Vista, XP sucks....

What happened to the good old days when you can do almost whatever you want, ie dos.
Now windows has to allow this, allow that, hide this hide that, restrictions, illegal operations, "updates", you can't even see what kind of ext some files are using, if not recognized by windows. Just too many restrictions i hate it, i never used Vista, but im sure it will be worse.
And of course, too many things that you don't need.

This is the CPU forum. This thread has nothing to do with CPU's.
In the future try to post more constructively.

You can't bash on old stuff only new stuff!!! XP has already been bashed on when it was in demo days.

Go back to using DOS if you want. It's your choice really. Vista is new, give it a chance to root out all the errors. And you even say you haven't used Vista, how can you criticize it?

what do you use now? If you use DOS you can't connect to the internet right? (I don't think you can). Are you a Linux user?

Windows isn't really all that resrictive when it comes right down to it. I personally use both Linux and windows, and although I do enjoy Linux's stability over windows . . . by a LOT, I still like Windows the best, period. I can do anything I want on it. Everyone else updates their software too, you just don't hear about it as much because nobody else has "Patch Tuesday". Illegal operations haven't been seen since we migrated to the NT kernel, as far as I've seen.

I also don't recall being able to run Quake 4, F.E.A.R., Photoshop, or iTunes on DOS, but you know, maybe those aren't things anybody wants to ever do.

Okay then:
C:// exit
That should cover DOS

Errr.. I'm not exactly understanding what restrictions your talking about.

"allow this, allow that" - ???

"hide this hide that" - Hide inactive icons, on the task bar?

"you can't even see what kind of ext some files" - never used XP much? Look at Folder Options.

"Just too many restrictions" - you think its that bad? Try Linux without knowing the root password.

I agree, stick with MS-DOS or DR-DOS. If you gotta whine about Windows XP.

Windows XP Pro is probably Microsoft's best OS to date. Yes it could be improved, but then again there is no such thing as the perfect Operating System.

If Microsoft's OS sucks then switch over to OS X, Linux, or BeOS.

You might want to try Ubuntu. It's nice, easy to use, and Linux. :D

Also, stop whining, of all Windoze versions, XP pro is the most stable in my and many other people's opinions. And yeah, Vista will make it worse.

I know just what you need to do. Go back to using DOS, start asigning all the IRQ's, ports, etc for yourself. Figure out how few things that you can do with the old OS. Then, when you find that there isn't any new hardware that will work. Have fun in your own little world.

No one is making you buy and no one is making you use. And, as others have pointed out, you have other options, ranging from using DOS (gasp), through some type of Linux and on through to switching to Apple. And to think you were lost in a sea of choice all this time while lamenting your fate on the rocky shoals of XP.

If you can't find how to show all the extension, then I think the problem is with the user, not the OS!!!

See Xp stops noobs to do stupid mistake. Seams like it managed to stop you 8)

Oh and here's a tip:
start -->>run
type cmd
there, the dark windows, just for u!
