Im sorry to place this thread here, its totally outta place, but the windows 98 forum is dead!

Simple question - does anyone know of any drivers that i can install on my old windows 98 (NOT SE - I have found SE mass storage drivers but none for just 98 ) laptop to get it to recognise mass storage devices!

This things so old it doesnt even have an ethernet port! Can you believe it!

Sorry guys, no where else to turn, I thought, if the tomshardware forum crew dont know of any they probably dont exist!

usb or firewire 1394?

generally, you should look at the manufacturer's site to see if there are any drivers available, from what i remember, 98 pre SE does not even recognize usb devices, but i guess there's a drive update somewhere for it, only thing i could find: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ced4fa25-952b-4dab-b7a1-f3b0ec1e50d8&DisplayLang=en

you should try to get to SE man...or google usb windows 98 and see what comes around

Normal 98 does support USB, if i plug the device in it comes up with "usb device not recognised etc"

Is there anywhere i might be able to download 98SE, maybe illegitimatly since its such an old product?

man, and people keep knocking microsoft, it's still on their site apparently even though the product life cycle ended long ago

The windows 9x area is not dead. Zoron, Sturm and I are very faithful in helping out those who ask questions in the 9x area. It's just that hardly anyone is using 9x anymore, so there's not a lot of action in that area. If you check the response time though, it's not unusual for a person to have his/her Q answered within a few hours.

I try to check the 98 area at least once a day when I am at work.
