I have a Sony 4:3 HDTV capable TV. For years I've been able to use the
DTV5 jack to watch DVDs, including those in 16x9 format, and the
picture has been beautiful. Recently went out and bought an off-air
HDTV tuner, which worked fine at 480i and 480p setting, but had huge
convergence problem at 1080i, not correctable using flash focus
feature on TV.

Returned the tuner and got a different brand name. Same deal. TV
repair guy said if I could view 16x9 DVDs on DTV jack without
convergence problem, then TV is working fine.

I am using component jacks. TV is Sony KP-53HS10, supposed to be HDTV
capable.

TIA,

Andrew

Get a new repair guy. Actually, the TV is working fine, it just needs
convergence aligned for the 1080i mode. You need to find someone who knows
how to do it properly and if this guy didn't know that you have to align CRT
based sets specifically for all scan modes, he is not the "repair guy" that
you want to be using.

Andrew:

Premier Home Theater Electronics in GBay, WI is

a Sony HDTV Dealer, have the $3000 IFS calibration box,

and have techs that charge $250 to do calibration on Sonys....

THey know the Sony service menus....... THey want more cal
business!!

In the near future I think I need red push corrected, a little

bow on the left vert edge (or move center spkr), & Color Temp

set to 6500K.... I know calibrations can include a few

or many adjustments for the price.... on my 34HS510...

I do run AVIA once a year to tweak both video & audio user

settings...

Agree with Leonard: If the registration is properly adjusted in all modes
then you would not be posting the information. The set must be adjusted in
full mode and then it must be checked in the other functional modes and the
registration specifically adjusted for those modes. Following that all the
modes must be adjusted and confirmed within specs, and the flash focus then
has to be initialized before leaving the setup. Again, as suggested, have a
different company or a fully qualified technician come out and do it
correctly.
