Running short of hair here...

I have a PPTP server (actually a Linux box) that works
fine with various clients including WinXP.

So I thought I'd try it with my Pocket PC 2003 device.

VPN seems to connect just fine. In fact, I can successfully
pind the PPC devices VPN'ed IP address from my internal
network. (I'm tracing the packets both before and after
the VPN server and everything looks good in that particular
case).

However, other than to respond to ICMP echo packets it
receives down the tunnel, my Pocket PC device seems totally
resolute that it will NOT send a single packet down
the tunnel.

Doing some googling, I have found a little information
on the Pocket PC's peculiar approach to VPN routing
(the exceptions list and so on). But try as I might,
I can't get the @(*&#&# thing to talk. I wondered if
perhaps the fact that the WiFi interface in the Pocket PC
device had retained a DHCP address on the internal network
(even though the interface was down) might be confusing
the route table. So I assigned a static 10.x.x.x address
to it. No luck, that didn't fix the VPN.

In my packet traces what I see is any packet that I would
expect to go down the tunnel does not (it _is_ sent, just
in the clear and outside the tunnel, and of course my
firewall drops all the packets).

Thanks for any insights !

Hi Poster,

Sorry but you are posting to the wrong group. This is a newsgroup for
Handheldpc palmtops. To learn the difference between a HPC (handheld
PC) and PocketPC go to this website http://www.hpcfactor.com/newsgroup/

http://www.HPCfactor.com is the world largest (and possibly last) HPC
website. It was created by Chris Tilley and Clinton Fitch, and you may
ask them questions by either a) going to hpcfactor.com and posting on
their forms http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/category-view.asp

or by sending them a email message at which they will be more than joyed
to answer your HPC questions.

Clinton Fitch-clinton@hpcfactor.com

Best of luck,

John

Heb. 4:12-For the word of God is living and
active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints
and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes
of the heart.

So Bible John is in fact a Perl script ? Fascinating.
Pitty it doesn't contain a regex to find instances of 'HPC'
in the posts it replies to...

Just not as smart.

It's a disgruntled "something" that originally seemed to have a problem with
one poster here. Lately it seems to be misdirecting it's anger at innocent
people who ask questions of the group.

This is a new low John. What kind of person are you that you try to
misinform Mr. Boreham? What has he ever done to you?

Yes I thought I was in the HPC board. My mistake.

So having got that all straightened out, would anyone like to
point me at an explaination of how the PocketPC does routing
for its VPN client ? (since it appears to not do it in the way that
99.9999% of all other OS'es do :( ).

Thanks.

Honestly I have a ton of problems myself.

Try something like this in your exception list:

*.*.*.*
*.*.*
*.*
*

As I'm sure you noticed, there is no "default route". The above approach
seems to almost mimic it though.

p.s. sorry about the weird tangent, usually we get right to the point around
here :-)
