I have several long distance mates who play bf2, so we decided to play together using "create Server" I can join my mates server easily but both have poor pc's/broadband compared to me & we lag badly, problem is when I create a server they cannot join it..
I have a Netgear DG834 router connecting two pc's I have checked several forums etc & have opened as many ports as possible, setting default DMZ server to enabled, disabling port scan.. but still they get network error trying to connect to my server, I give them the correct IP address & password but no joy, my two pc's have same IP except the last digit where one ends .1 other .2

can anyone help?

I am still a novice when it comes to routers & opening ports etc, so any advice would be most appreciated

also when using x-fire if I join a server & my friends goto follow using "join game" icon they cannot as its greyed out, but if my friend joins a server I can use the "join game" to follow them..

Which IP address are you giving them? You public one from the router or a private one from the game server? It should be the public one.

I'm giving them my public one (my static IP)
When I create a server & start playing bf2 it shows my IP at the top right, which is same IP I log into my router settings page...

you give them your ip from the windows conntection Icon.
which has 192.168.1.100 to like 192.168.1.175 just look on there and give them that because that is the ip you are running the Bf2 server so thats the ip your router gave you for your computer's ip. or because if you have a ip that change's like every 2 sec''s like dsl then it better to use the ip the router gave you or the router's ip but see when you set up a server you use Exp:192.168.1.100:28965 something like that. because the 28965 is the port for the server which the ip is using. i know i have set up alot of server's on my computer.

You don't know what you're talking about. 192.168.x.x are private non-routable addresses. You MUST you the public IP address assigned by the ISP unless they're on your LAN.
