Vista Home Basic - $150
Vista Home Premuim - $190
Vista Business - $250
Vista Enterprise - Not sure. You have to buy it in volumes.
Vista Ultimate - $280
This is all entirely guess work. I'm shooting around the price of the upgrade version.

I would have thought it would be a bit cheaper than that.
For instance you've got currently (all prices off Newegg because I'm too lazy to look elsewhere)
XP SP2 Retail 299
XP SP2 Upgrage 199 (66% full retail price)
XP SP2 OEM 139 (46% full retail price)
So my silly estimates for OEM versions of Vista if they adopt a similar strategy are as follows
Vista Home Basic - $80
Vista Home Premuim - $109
Vista Business - $139
Vista Ultimate - $189
But of course I'm just speculating. Was just wondering if anyone had seen any official pricing
Maybe if you find out the price of what a volume of Vista Enterprise would be and then did some extrapolation and then added the square root of pi to the googol place, and divide that by the amount of fanboys in the world.... What the hell. Are there any Microsoft employees out there?

My IT / Hacking teacher is the head of the IT dept. at some "unnamable" company. He has to order or atleast get the company to order Vista. Maybe he might know. I'll get back to you on that....
hi.
you talking about oem prices.
many people does not know(including me) what this oem means.
2 if i want to a shop to buy the vista in cd(dvd)whatever it comes
how will it cost.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is the exact opposite of retail. OEM's have warrantee's more limited than your normal retail software, and carry more limited usage rights. It is cheaper than the retail software in that it eliminates the middle man in this case being the retailer (Your local computer store, Tigerdirect, Newegg). That's why it has the name OEM.
As for the price of Vista, it just went up.
hi.
thank you for your answer.
if i understant right the oem is the vesrion of software that comes with your pc preinstalledor not..
is that right.?
but how many of us is going to get a prebuilt pc with xxx components.
i use built by myself my pc at least,as i suspect most of us.
so there is no oem price for us.

Not correct
If you build your own PC you can buy OEM software to put on your PC

What are the disadvantages of buying OEM? I know it was mentioned typically you would get limited warranties and all that, but what does this mean for Vista? I saw that you can get MCE 2005 (OEM) for $109.99 with a free upgrade to Vista Premium on New Egg. That seems a hell of a lot better than paying full price for the complete install of Vista down the road. Seeing as this is my first build, retail seems reassuring, but am I just being paranoid? Would I be better off waiting until Vista comes out and performing a full install rather than messing with an upgrade? OEM? Retail? Help me decide. Thanks.
im looking at ultimate for myself and a friend, and what you mentioned above (189-200) is what I would think too.
For comparison, the oem version of XP pro is 139 (last i checked)
thats half or more less than the retail pricing.
so...
400/2=200.
i hope, cause 280 is a little much. 220 would be my limit.
I still don't know what would be the better option though... sucking it up and buying a retail full price full install of Vista, or going with the cheap OEM upgrade to Vista. I've heard in the past that upgrades can be a hassle, and full installs are always preferred, but what a price difference. Plus, I'm not sure the implications of getting OEM versus retail. I'm not a system builder, but technically I am building a system for myself. Not sure which way to go here. Please enlighten me.
the only difference between retail and OEM are as follows:
1. Retail is returnable, while OEM is not UNLESS there is a manufacturing defect.
2. Retail comes in a fancy box. OEM comes in a CD-case.
thats it.
Save yourself $$$, and put that towards something on your system.
Anyhow, has anyone seen the OEM pricing of Vista ULTIMATE? NOT THE UPGRADE PRICE.
Ok, well that answers question #1, but what about upgrades versus full installs? Again, I've heard that full installs are preferred, but are upgrades really that much of a pain? Again, we're talking about a fairly sizable price difference between the Vista upgrade and the full install. From people who have built a lot of systems, what would you recommend? Normally I'd opt for the full install, but the coupon deals floating around make it that much tougher of a decision.
Upgrade CDs can be used to perform full clean installs, so if you can get an upgrade cheaper than an OEM copy, go for it. If the OEM is cheaper, get the OEM.
Just be aware of exactly what version of Windows you need in order to qualify for the upgrade version you're looking at. If there is an Ultimate upgrade, I'm curious to know if XP Home will be one of the qualifying products.
In any event, you want to do a clean install. If there is one thing I've learned about new Windows versions over the years, it's that you NEVER want to do an upgrade install. Keep your old Windows CD handy and perform a clean install.
Most computers I can find to buy or custom build right now specify that a free upgrade to Vista is included with the purchase of whatever version of XP you buy right now.
Once XP is phased out and Vista comes standard on new computers, will Vista be more expensive then than XP is now? If so, it seems like there's some incentive to buy a computer now rather than waiting for Vista to come out and become standard.
Alternatively, will Vista's prices be roughly comprable to XP's prices?
Also, by when will XP have been phased out? I was planning on buying a new system in May. Will that probably have Vista on it rather than XP?

the OEM Deal at online stores like newegg have the Coupon for Vista are not free you have to pay!!! If you look at newegg. you will see someone who bought a version and tells how much Microsoft wants more from you when you put in the Coupon code. As i learn in life nothing is free and espcially from Microsoft!!!!!!!
Windows Vista is NOT a FREE upgrade. You have to pay Fourty-Nine US Dollars for 32 or 64 bit for Home Basic (WASTE OF TIME) or Seventy-Nine Dollars for Home Premium. (Costs are per the Coupon)

Agree. Anyway I just downloaded Vista and installed it on my hdd and it runs great. I'll just buy an OEM version of it when it becomes available.
I believe OEM OS is married to the motherboard. Not sure with Vista yet.
"The more appropriate license for a computer enthusiast who will be replacing motherboards for performance reasons is the Full Retail license for XP, which allows unlimited movement of the operating system from computer to computer, as long as the license is activated on only one computer at a time."

anyone know when will they become available for Vista?
I'm planning on getting Ultimate once my release candidate version expires.
