I’m trying to speed up PC#2 a bit without significantly slowing down PC#1.

Can I swap CPU and RAM between these 2 PC and will they both still work perfectly without additional software/hardware modifications? I want to end up with PC#2 with 2.66GHZ CPU and 1.5GB and PC#1 with 2.4GHB and 512MB) Is there anything else that I would need to do other than swap the chips? Is there any other information needed to properly answer this question? Also are both of these CPU’s non Celeron?

PC#1
P4 Northwood socket 478 2.66GHZ
MotherBoard Intel I845G
Bus speed 133
Rated FSB 531

RAM #1 PC 3200 512MB
RAM #2 PC 2700 512MB

PC#2
P4 Northwood Mpga 478 2.4 GHZ
MotherBoard ASUS P4S8X Chipset 648
Bus speed 135
Rated FSB 538

RAM #1 PC 2100 256MB
RAM #2 PC 2100 256MB
RAM #3 PC 2700 512MB

Sorry if this is confusing and...Thank you!!!

No, you should be fine. It's better to match RAM if possible so it runs in dual-channel.

Sorry, I'm not very technical. How would I best use the above RAM so that PC#2 is fastest?

Also, how can I tell (without opening the case) if either of these is a Celeron?

I don't think either of the chipsets on those motherboards support dual channel memory so it doesn't matter if you match the memory.

The PC2100 will be the slowest memory, so make sure that you keep it out of the one that you want to run the fastest.

Either download CPU-Z or right-click on My Computer and click properties.
