registration question - just curious

I built a new computer and when I installed Win XP I had to call MS and register by phone as the registration key was already used. I told them I had a new install and they gave me the key. I then had to re-format my HD and re-install XP on my new machine, and this time the key worked the first time. Is this because my hardware profile was already on file from the first time I installed it?

I was expecting to have to call them again and was surprised it went through.

you propably forget to activate registration of windows the first time ,
as result yu needed to lace a call to ms support to unlock your copy.
tthe serials are working as times as you reformat your hd.
there is a option to register that copy of windows ,it is done automatically,
if not you can set reg=done,
or else the system deactivate after some time a place a phone call.
