I dont know an awful lot about PSUs but i read an article where someone was ranting about 1KW PSUs and how that was almost as much as a kettle and i thought how much would my intended PSU the Zalman ZM600-HP 600W, cost to run? Baring in mind we are are from different countries would it consume alot of power if say in general the pc is on for 6-8 hours a day 7days a week?

Also my intended system is:

Core 2 Duo E4300 1.87ghz
Artic Cooling Freezer Pro*
Asus P5b Deluxe WIFI*
XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb
Corsair XMS2 2x1Gb 800mhz
Zalman ZM600-HP 600W (heatpipe cooled)
Antec Nine Hundred
Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard
Microsoft Habu
320 Gb Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 16mb

I heard that a system will only take the amount of power it needs so i thought that would be helpful, not that u really needed the keyboard or mouse i guess but better to safe haha.

It helps to have the efficiency "bell curve" to see what the efficiency is at a given load, since it is not a consistent rating. Check out Zalman ZM600-HP review @ pcper (link) they have a table of load vs. efficiency...

[code:1:19bac24d13]DC load(w) Efficiency (ac/dc ratio)
97 77.9
279 81.1
353 82.6
458 82.2
593 80.5[/code:1:19bac24d13]

Maybe take the data in the chart above and create a line graph from a spreadsheet, then plug-n-chug your specs into the eXtreme PSU Calculator (free) and compare...

Be aware the psu calc will give you the max power consumption when every component is 100% load, and your system may be sitting idle and drawing much less power so your average load will be much lower.
