I doubt it will be done before 2007... look at the site and the logo. The
number '2' is drawn on afterwards so badly...

That makes me cry. With Ghost Recon 2 ruined, there's nothing
good on the way.

I thought Stalker was looking good. It may provide some 'flash' style
thrills until ofp 2....
There's also HL2, which has support for huge maps, and there'll be
loads of mods out before you can say 'ofp2 delayed until 2007'.

Doom 3 however, is the biggest dud yet, and I sat through
Unreal2......

And what would you estimate the hardware requirements of
a HL2 with hugh maps would be ?

I've played most of the HL2 stuff that was nicked, I'm ashamed to
say.....
But that had some big maps, they ran fine on my 3.2 p4 with a radeon
9700 pro, and a gig of dual ddr. So going by that the spec wouldn't
need to be too good.
Hopefully HL2 will make it out this Sept' and we'll see some nice
tactical shooter mods being made.

See for yourself. the final beta is all over the web, so if you intend to buy the game, it cant
hurt :)
Doom 3 is a total turkey. Specialized to the point that it can prolly only play Doom3, and the
texturing is bordering on ameteurish. No wonder there is no demo.

Agreed, Stalker looks very interesting to me, both in terms of the
gameplay style (especially the large outdoor areas) and the
atmosphere. Atmosphere is one of the main factors as to how much I
enjoy a game, and Stalker looks brilliant in that department.

Except for those invisible "anomalies", that mean the character has to
keep throwing nuts and bolts in the air. Buy a geiger counter, man!

>There's also HL2, which has support for huge maps, and there'll be

The main problem is with mods for me is finding somewhere to play them
with other people. I only recently got into OFP, and can only find a
couple of Australian servers, and only one of those ever has more than
a few people on it, and even that sits empty most of the time.

>Doom 3 however, is the biggest dud yet, and I sat through
>Unreal2......

Thankfully it wasn't a disappointment for me, since I never intended
to buy it or play it :) I've always figured that Doom 3 might provide
a nice-looking engine for some games I might like in the future, much
the same situation for me as for Quake 2 and 3.

I'm sort of undecided about what I've seen for HL2. Some of the
physics effects look pretty neat, and it seems to look great visually,
but I never really got into the first one. Looking at the videos of
HL2, some of it seems interesting, a lot of it doesn't. Far too many
"bosses" that require a dozen BFG or rocket launcher hits, and far too
many stupid little crawling monsters.

There also seems to be a lot that caters to the hardcore fanboys -
e.g. the G-Man from the first HL. Seeing some of the trade show
videos, the reactions of the audience to him and some of the other
features made me gag.

I guess I'll have to sit in my room playing OFP and GR against the PC
:)

If they finish Stalker before DNF, I'm happy..

Huge in what way? All the demos I've seen show quite cramped
levels, with a couple of open ones which aren't that large.
Definitely not anything that resembles even remotely Ghost Recon or OFP.

I've enjoyed Doom3 a lot, it is about what I expected it to be,
an excellent game. After playing it for several hours I had to go
to the basement, suddenly the lights went off and for a moment
I was a bit scared. Pretty weak, huh? :)

I've played a fair bit of the stolen HL2 code, I know I know, not
clever, but I did see some maps that were bigger than the biggest
bf1942 maps. There's good support for vehicle physics as well, not
sure about flying stuff though..., but there are some jet skis :)

Yeah, I'm still playing through Doom 3 on nightmare mode, it's getting
harder and it's slow going. It is however, a very good looking retro
game with no thought at all gone into challenging gameplay. TBH, I
thought Alien V Predator 2 offered a better, scarier, game.

She's ok I guess. Should go back making independent movies like run
lola run instead of this 'bourne' stuff.

You know, this rates high on the "and now for something completely
different" scale. Franka Potente?! In a OFP2 thread? I'm slightly
confused :)
