Did I waist money?

I had ddr2-533 1GB (512mbx2) and replaced it with 4GB (4x1GB) ddr2-675. I was going to up my processor speed to work with the higher RAM.

I was thinking of getting the E6700 over the summer. Im nervous when it comes to overclocking (never done it).

Im keeping in mind that the processor and ram is most important when it comes to performance.(for just a gaming system)

Really I'd say for a gaming system the order of importance is: GFX card, CPU, amount of RAM, hard drive speed, speed of RAM.

Will be no trouble to overclock that CPU and the RAM will be great for it. Check out the sticky by Wusy in the CPU overclockng forum.

if you're running WinXP you got more ram than it will use/recognize.

Unless you're running 64bit then that 4Gb of ram is useless. 2Gb is usually needed for high performance gaming on 32-bit OS.

I wouldn't get the e6700. The e6600 is only $308. The e6700 is two hundred dollars more. Even with the stock cooler you could simply raise the FSB from 266 to 300. Then your e6600 will be a bit faster than the e6700! For $200 less!! Your temps will only rise by 3C idle at most. In other words, Two hundred dollars isn't worth the extra 260 MHz. Get the e6600 and save your money.

Do I need to update my bios if I overclock the E6600? My DS3 is F3. I live by the motto, if it aint broke dont update it lol
