What is the default page file size range for a clean install of WXP on a computer with 2GB of RAM? Is it different than for a clean install of WXP on a computer with 1GB of RAM? Just asking so that I know how large to make the page file partition prior to installation.

check the last reply i had, some links in there which explain it
windows will set a dynamic size depending on your amount of physical ram, this value will most likely be 1.5 times greather than the ram

FatTony, I read your thread before posting. I appreciate the reply, but I was hoping that someone out there who has WXP/W2K installed on a computer with 2GB of RAM could look in My Computer> Properties> Advanced [tab]> Performance Options> Change [button]> and tell me exactly what WXP set as the default Paging File Size range for their computer. Anyone?

What do you use the computer for?
Unless your running memory hogging programs like video editing and such, make a 2 gig partition and set the page file to start at 512 min and 1.8 gig max.
My friend has 2gigs of memory and this is what I did on his. No problems at all.

Also might check out these links. Partitions and Page file

i don't recommend dynamic paging file size, static is usually the best since the system won't be responsible for increasing and decreasing the file size all the time

i don't know the default values windows would give for a 2gb ram pf size, let's see if anyone else posts that

i would recommend you just give it the maximum amount that windows allows for a pagefile and never look back at it: 4096 initial and 4096 maximum
