Hi guys, I am planning to put together a new system, and below is the spec:

Video Card: Gigabyte Geforce 8800 GTS, 320MB, PCI Express

Memory: Transcend DDR2 1GB PC2 5300 1GB DDR2
667MHZ CL5 128Mx64 DIMM 240-pin
Or
Transcend JetRam 240pin DDR2-667 1GB DIMM 128Mx64 CL5

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, dual core, socket AM2, 2.8GHz

MB: Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 Socket AM2

CASE: Thermaltake Armor Jr VC3000BWS Black

I have been warned by my friend on two things with this spec:

•The motherboard may not be compatible with the video card, as he have never seen any 8800GTS hooked up to a GA-M59SLI

•The RAM may not run on this mother board (or CPU).

He has suggested me to seek resolution here, so if any of you would kindly give some help, that would be very appreciated. :)

What is the intended purpose of the system? Will you be overclocking? What budget are you looking at?

For a video card, I'm a fan of EVGA. They even offer SC and KO factory overclock cards if you don't want to overclock them yourself and their cards have a lifetime warranty (even if you do overclock them).

I would highly recommend 2GB of RAM. 1GB just isn't really enough (even under XP - nevermind Vista).

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your compatability questions as I'm not familiar with that mobo.

The RAM and GPU will both work. I would suggest getting a 6000+ though with the recent price drops...

Wil:

I probably wont be doing any overclocking. I will check we got any EVGA here in New Zealand (that's where I am in right now). :)

Proof:
Yeah I have considered the 6000+, but it eats up 125W (or something around that) though. Sufficient cooling is one concern (since I have no experience in putting extra fans.....water cooling e.t.c). On the otherhand I have also checked out Tom's CPU charts. 5600 actually beats 6000 in many areas (multi tasking, Unreal and Quake)...so I would probably still stikc to 5600 with the 100NZD difference between the two :)
