Before I get slated for being my first post, let me explain.
I live in Thailand, and yesterday while shopping in a place called Panthip Plaza, I was buying some computer parts and they had the NEW (unreleased) GF8600 GTS for 5000 baht (£75). So I bought it.
So I am wondering how come I have purchased such a device before the public release on May 1st....
Ok here you go, sorry but I am not taking out of my case, but you can clearly see the label on the back as well as the box and the driver cd (which was rather basic) but it all came bundled with SpellForce 2 as well as the required leads.
The Driver CD comes with version 101.03 and automatically detects the Card as an 8600 GT
The CD also contains DX9 WDM and muvee maker.
I don't have 3dmark on my computer and with a slow ADSL connection it would take about 2 days to download. So I cannot run that benchmark, but if you know of any "smallish" programs that you would like me to run then link me and I will run them.
Anymore Q's let me know...
TBS
PS - I have also posted this on Anandtech forum as well.
According to the sticker on the card, in one of those pics - it is GDDR3.
Be interesting to see the results if you could acquire something like 3DMark06. No biggie if you can't, though (results will be popping up over the duration of this week, anyway).
I thought that there are very cheap and fast ways how to connect to the internet in asia..well, in taiwan china etc.. anyway, how much do you pay for that dsl? I pay ummm...35$ monthly for 2560/256 (cable)..sorry for off topic, just for comparison :-)
currently i have 512/256 @ 700 baht (about $20) a month. But the contention ratio here is about 5000:1 so its crap.
With upto date news on downloading 3dmark, the net cut off and it wouldnt resume.... so have had to start again. The network in Thailand is completely useless, no investment at all... so its atrocious.
Currently 1h40 until download completes @ 30k a sec
Sigh... i missed going to the beach for this... haha
Damn...
that's too low! 8O 8O
my previews OC'ed 7800GT got 8000 in 3DMark05 8O 8O
are you sure that you use 3DMark05 :?:
seems OK for 3DMark06 but for 2005 it's too low for a GeForce8 Series.
After running it twice - it went up a few more points, but thats what I got.

Maybe the driver? There is a newer one out there, I will try that and see how that goes.
hey man congrats on your purchase, i highly suggest overclocking to gts levels though just so you can keep up for longer. By no means is the 8600gt a bad card though its an excellent performer in its price range. If you overclock it to gts levels or higher though you can definately get your money's worth because you can run oblivion at max settings 1280x1024 w/o aa or af and get decent framerates.
Both test are interesting.
Guru3d shows 8600gts i often catched up by 7900gs (150$)
Hardocp show 8600gts performs at similar rate as 1950 pro and even beter because it can play games with extra details - Oblivion is a good test to campare cards, same for STALKER.
I think these cards have some power left - Nvidia must produce more juce from its drivers.
Anyway i play Stalker with a BFG 8800GTS OC 320MB edition and it delievrs very smooth gameplay.
8600GT/GTS are to expensive for now, wait till they'll be avaible for 160-170(max)$ as 8800 GTS 320MB are getting cheaper and more affordable.
Btw gf 8500 looks like it will perform like a gf 6600 gt
Damn...

He has a GT not a GTS. Huge clock speed difference.
