Hey. I set up a wireless connection in our house with the WRT54G router and we have 2 computers that use the WMP54G wireless card. It's been set up for a few weeks now and my only problem has to deal with reception. I'm 2 floors up from the router and I can get a fair signal. My problem seems kinda sporadic. I play Day of Defeat a lot and i notice that everyonce in awhile, my ping will shoot to upwards of 300 or even 900, where as the norm for me is around 70-100. I thought it was the fact that we have 2.4 ghz phones in the house but this also seems to happen at night, when no one is on the phone. Could it be another wireless computer hogging the bandwidth? Also, could someone with a wireless laptop in between (i.e. on the middle floor) cause a lot of interference? I also overclock my ti4200 and use a loud and fast 80x80x32 fan that blows by the card; would that cause a lot of EMI? And finally, though I'll probably get a redneck comment from this, couldn't I just put some tinfoil on the antenna, either on my card or the router? hehe. Anyway, thanks. -Mnx4

Also, the system i'm talking about is a 1.4 ghz intel p4, gateway with 320 ram, on win98se.

Hey KWebb

I posted a problem just above this one which is pretty similar. Is xp's wireless zero config service to blame? Can you expand on your statement please.

Cheers

K

Generally speaking yes. XP WZC will spike every every once in awhile. If your card's utility will work with XP then disable the service and run the client utility of the client device you have. The zero wireless config is designed for complete newbs that can't put the config info in by themselves.
