I have a netgear router that i am using at the moment model number WGR614 v 5 and i connect to that wirelessly. But I have a linksys router here that i want to connect it to the netgear so i can have an access point upstairs for the PS2. What do i have to do to configure the Linksys WRT54G so it can be an access point.

You don't need an access point, you need a wireless bridge. Google for third party firmware that make the WRT54G act as a wireless bridge.
