Hey,

I am looking for some help on disabling processes not needed in xp pro.
Specifically the ones that xp installs defaultly and are not really needed. I would like to keep it basic other than the stuff i know i need. Can someone please help or link to good software?

go to services.msc and start trimming down on things that start up automatically, a lot of them are critical tho so leave them in there...but no i don't have a list or anything, you can check the MS website

What i did was go to msconfig, go to the startup tab, then just start googling each process down the list to see if i need it or not. I've disable like 10 processes.

I got this when it was still free. You might find a free one out there otherwise you can pay PCMag $ for it. EndItAll2

Also norton has a great Process Veiwer/Killer. You can even kill Norton with it.

there use to be a site called blackviper (i think). It had a detailed explanation of what each service does and what could be disabled. Mirrors of the site are still available if you do a google search.
