What are people's thoughts on buying second hand GPU's off ebay etc. Risky or a cheap way of getting really good cards?

depends on the card, how long its been used, what the price is, and if the person selling it is willing to take it back if it doesnt work for a full refund.

I've heard of people getting ripped off. Paying large amounts of money for bad cards.
I suggest you stay away from eBay, unless you are looking for some old parts no longer available in the stores.

keep in mind: you get what you pay for,
most of the time: if it looks too good to be true, it is.

i've already bought some stuff from ebay, never had problems with it,
because i don't expect i could buy a 1 month old 8800 GTX for 20 $

read the ad very good, and in case you're not sure, ask the seller.

I sold my X850Pro on eBay to someone for a little over $100, which is a pretty good deal. It ran fine and had an Arctic Cooler hsf on it. Just be sure to ask questions, read the entire listing carefully, and look for return policies.

XFX brand cards usually carry a "Double Lifetime Warranty" except maybe for their low end cards. The warranty on their cards can be transfered to one (and only one) second hand buyer.
