Is there a way to organize folders efficiently in primary HD containing Win XP?

would a HD performance slow down if a main folder has many subfolders?

yes depending on how many child objects there are in the parent folder
i'm not going to mention any registry hacks, but off the bat i recommend you do the following to speed up enumeration in the windows shell:

use classic folder view
do not use the thumbnail or details view
do not use "show popup description of items" in folder options

ultimately, organize everything in a way that you will not run into this issue, otherwise use the command prompt

yeah details view tries to populate and enumerate a lot more information for files and folders, such as attributes, locations, size, permissions, file type, dates, file versions, and much more...where as a tile or list view will only show the filename and its associated icon
