I need some help optimizing XP Pro SP2. I recently built a new rig and am wanting to optimize it. See my sig for components. Something is askew because I received an out of memory error while editing a 48 MB wave file with sound recorder. My pagefile is set to 4000 min 8000 max. My old system only had 1 GB of ram and I never got this error so I'm stumped with my 3 GB of ram.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
BTW - my pagefile is currently showing 348 MB and coming to this site is the only thing I did after booting.

I guess you are using 32 bit system. Then 4 GB of pagefile is the maximum limit. If you have 3 GB of RAM then a 384 MB pagefile is enough. 4 GB pagefile would brake your system out and your system would get more often fragmented.

if you have more then 1GB then disable your pagefile its a waste and slowing you down.

I have a p4 2.0 with 1 GB of Ram and the page file on that is disabled also.

disable it for a week and use it for that week, after a week enbale it again then you notice how much faster your pc is without pagefile ;)
