I need some help optimizing XP Pro SP2. I recently built a new rig and am wanting to optimize it. See my sig for components. Something is askew because I received an out of memory error while editing a 48 MB wave file with sound recorder. My pagefile is set to 4000 min 8000 max. My old system only had 1 GB of ram and I never got this error so I'm stumped with my 3 GB of ram.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
BTW - my pagefile is currently showing 348 MB and coming to this site is the only thing I did after booting.

What application are you using to edit the WAV ?
Is it the same one your old system used ?

You shouldn't need to optimize XP to do what you want.

Any weird errors in your Eventlogs ? (Start - Run - Eventvwr)

I used Microsoft's Sound Recorder under accessories on both the old and new system. I just checked the event viewer and the only thing I see is every 30 minutes Lightscribe
Event Type: Information
Event Source: LightScribeService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5
Date: 10/29/2006
Time: 7:23:01 AM
User: N/A
Computer: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Description:
Unsupported service control request (see data below)
Data:
0000: 04 00 00 00 ....
Not sure what that is all about. I did run memtest86 for 3 hours with no errors and Prime95 torture for 8 hours no errors last night.
Help!

Thanks, as per your reccommendation I just downloaded it and ran it. It shows that I could benefit from this program. Before I drop a few dollars on it I have a couple of questions. Do you use it and feel it is worth the price.
