If I use a usb Vestax VCI-100 DJ controller and a usb Native Instruments Kontrol 1 audio interface together, will they have a resource conflict. Would it be better to use a firewire Tascam FireOne audio interface? From a hardware resource standpoint, since they would both be working at the same time it may be better to use usb and firewire. Is this logical?

You shouldn't get resource conflicts on the USB bus, however depending on the software you're using the interfaces with you may only be able to select one of them. Is this on a Windows or Macintosh platform?

Thanks Mesa,

Dual Core Windows system. The usb Vestax VCI-100 is a new DJ Midi controller. It has Native Instruments DJ Traktor LE software loaded. Native Instruments also makes a usb audio interface called Kontrol 1. I would assume that Kontrol 1 would work at the same time as VCI-100. Tascam FireOne is not produced by Native Instruments. It would by used for sound output. The Firewire specs are better and for DAW use, firewire has been preferred to usb in the past.

Okay, so the Vestax and the Kontroller 1 are just controllers and triggers (essentially) rather than interfaces?

I'm not familiar with these specific products (as you may have guessed) but I'm sure you're fine running multiple controllers.

The Vestax is a usb/Midi contoller but the Kontrol 1 is a usb audio interface for producing output sound.

There'll be no problems using the Vestax and the NI controller just because they're both USB because of resource conflicts. I'd say a FireWire interface is more desireable, but the NI software will work better with the NI controller.

Thanks Mesa,
I just wanted to get an opinion from a hardware expert regarding resources.

Hey oneartist, My experience with usb and midi controllers and firewire/midi has been that there may not necessarily be a conflict with two usb devices, but the usb buss doesn't seem to allow as fast and accurate response for midi as a actual midi input My akai trigger pad with fxspansion bfd drum software works a lot better through midi than usbmidi. Since you have a new platform you may be ok. The usbmidi software has to interpret the midi commands through a driver. firewire and usb cable quality is important.

I've got it. I built a computer based on a Samplitude reference computer designed by one of the Samplitude forum administrators. He included Zalman products.
