I am very anxious to get started on my pc build. Budget is tight, so I am waiting in hopes of the geforce 8800 series (esp gts) will drop due to the new cards hitting the market. I realize that in technology prices always drop, So yea one day the card will be very affordable. BUT what I am wanting to know if anyone has heard anything about the geforce 8800 series, if they plan on dropping prices relatively soon and by how much (within a month, versus prices in 2 months) I really do not want to wait any longer than 2 months, but if there is not going to be any significant within this time frame, I plan on just going ahead on purchasing. I am SO glad I waited for the processor price to drop (heard there was going to be a big drop in the athlon x2 6000, and yay I was not dissappointed!) So does anyone know anything about the geforce 8800 cards if/when the price will drop, by approximately how much and when it will happen? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me and any others that have been wondering the same thing. (I did some research but could not find much info)
If AMD/ATI releases a $399 card that matches the 8800GTX, then the 8800GTS will have to drop. I doubt any price drops before that unless NV needs to clear stock because of their own 8900 release.
I dont see the GTS and GTX dropping much till summertime, and even then prob only about $50 or so. They are excellent cards well above the competition on through the summer. The true tale will be when the first Direct X 10 games come out and the benches with these 2 and ATI's new cards compared to each other. I just got my GTS a few weeks ago and its worth every cent I paid! Oh and the 6000+ rocks, dont let those online reviews fool you comparing to Intel crapola, get it!
Alledgedly the H2900XT has slightly superior performance to the 8800GTX but will be priced the same as the 8800GTS. If this is the case then there will be some big price drops very soon from nVidia as they reposition their range. This could be as soon as May.
Keep your eye on the ATI (AMD) launch as this is what will dictate nVidia's pricing for the next few months.
I was trying to hold back but yeah I have the e6400 at 3.2Ghz, and that makes it a little faster than the EX6800. As far as 1024x768 I have the 8800GTS 640mb and it's perfect at 1680x1050. It's pretty obvious that Soldier37 is an idiot fanboy of BS.
Comments this are why I hate these forums sometimes, such closed minded people.
Hell my Xeon @ 2.80ghz (which I paid $185 for 5 months ago) will dance all over the face of his 6000+ 8) Oh and I game at 1680x1050 on this rig with my 20" widescreen Samsung 206BW LCD Monitor! Its a beautiful thing! lol
Both AMD and Intel are great. AMDs are basically better for the price if you don't OC. Core 2 Duos are better if you want to overclock. Are you morons done arguing on the internet!?!? For the love of god leave threads alone unless what you're saying is relevant or at least somewhat related to the original post!!!
To answer your question Sinntasy, price drops on 8x00s are basically guaranteed once R600 comes out in early/mid May, but it is hard to tell how much they will drop or if they will drop before the release. I am guessing that the 8800GTS's will drop no more than $50 before R600's release. But if the 2900XTs are coming in at ~$400 then the price drops for the 8x00 will be VERY large, at least to the point that they're competitive like between $80-$150 price drops across the spectrum. My speculations are that the 8800GTS 320MB will only drop to about $240 and that the 8800GTS 640MB will drop to about $300-$320. The 8800GTS 640MB should be priced within ~$30 of the 320MB currently since there isn't enough performance difference to make it worth the extra $70+. Hopefully, nvidia strikes ati early and drops prices on all 8x00 series before the ATI R600 launch and we can all get some nice DX10 GPUs for dirt cheap.

I've been waiting for the 8600 to come out, hoping to avoid the cost of an 8800. However, the 8600 is turning out to be a poor card in almost every review I have read. I hope you are right about the 8800gts going down to about $240.
Well, anyway, to the original poster: ATI's new range should be released within the next two weeks... hopefully... I think the expected release date is the 24th. nVidia may have a substantial price decrease if the competition is high.
lol I dont think he noticed that you were replying to two different people with 2 consecutive posts (such as I am about to do)! Though I dont see the problem with either view!
Your the man EnforcerFX, that is a good way of thinking...buy whats best for your money and not what name looks prettier... very rare around these parts! lol
Hey enforcer, just thought I would show you this! with 800mhz memory and a 1:1 divider with that water cooling I could see you making this baby run @ 4.0ghz w/ 1600mhz FSB and keeping your memory at stock timings and speed! Just a thought...lol, hell im temped!
there might be small price drops here and there, but the most of it will come when the R600 comes out, and hopefully they'll release a 8900 or something which might help drop price also
When is the 8900gtx going to be released? And will it take over the price segment of current 8800gtx? Will the 8900 series be 80nm in fab process or smaller? Does the 8600 series require any extra power cables? How about the geforce 9 series, heard that its in the works...

Hmmm, looks like it would do some good. Hopefully on the 22nd, it'll drop a little lower and hopefully land on newegg.(Planning on getting all my parts from there, and dangerden.com)
r600 for 399? don`t count on it! rumors keep us talking over here but are not to be taken that seriously........
the 8600gts (ultra anyone?) would get 64 shaders and 256bit mem according to the first rumors and `` it will cost 200 dollars``. yeah right!
they ended up with half the specs and 50 dollar premium price
if ati has a winner then it will cost around 500-600 bucks i think.
they could use the extra dollars right now, so why should they give it away for 399 when it`s the best thing that money can buy (at that point)?
idiot no, Ive been messing with computers since the Commodore Vic-20 and just prefer not to go with the Darkside, aka Intel. Its just brand preference. I consider what I have to be in the top 10% of system builders out there. I'll move to quad core next year when AMD will be back on top.
i seriously doubt it! I wouldnt waste my time on a Intel pos. On top of that get a real monitor while your at it, 22' is for teenagers oh and get a real phone, car, house, woman etc....Im done wasting my time here with your punk a%$. Oh and one more thing, try serving your country and doing something with yourself than buying crap parts and worrying about what others say about your crap processor!

You may have served your country, but you serve no purpose on these forums with your blind fanboyism, so just do us all a service as you so preach and just remove yourself from these forums please!

You need to stop talking you are making yourself look like a complete àss. I highly doubt you are in your late thirties as you are showing the maturity of a thirteen year old.
Do you have a problem with me posting? I mean if I feel I have something useful to add I will post it, just like you.
No - no offence meant on your opinions etc, just noticed the three sets of double posts. I usually just edit a post or copy+paste if I need two quotes in a post.
By the way, for the last couple of posters: Take into account what decripple said!
Sinntasy said he/she was on a tight budget - usually that means that core2duo is out of the range. Intel boards are about 30% higher in price than the AMD equivalents and AMD's processors are very nicely priced at the moment. It's not as if you're getting bad value for money when buying AMD.
Ok, well the 6000+ is a $240 processor on newegg, and as of next week the E6600 is going to be around $225, so getting that and the motherboard for intel depending on what you get...sure it may take u over slightly, but if you get the E6420 that will be releasing for around $185 then you will have made up for the cost and then a small OC puts your performance much higher than that of a 6000+. Or he could go with the E4x00 series and OC and have even better value. After the price cut I see no reason to buy AMD at this point. And if OC'ing is not an option than it is difficult for me to recommend something because I flat out dont understand the Idea of not OC'ing. So with the budget in mind, I still think intel is the better way to go. Even getting an E6400 or E6300 before the price cuts I think is a better way to go than the 6000+. When Barci comes this may all change...only time will tell!
