Case: antec p180 (already ordered, frys.com for 80$ after 40$ rebate)
PSU: Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply 100 or HIPER HPU-4K580-MS ATX12V v2.2 580W Power Supply 100
MOBO: ASUS P5N32-E SLI ATX Intel or maybe ASUS P5B-E ATX Intel.
CPU:intel e6600, waiting for price drop april 24th
heatsink: arctic freezer pro 7 or Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu CPU Cooler
gfx card:1.EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256-P2-N615-TX Video Card
2.XFX GeForce 7600GT
3.EVGA GeForce 7900GS 256
Ram:?? i want to do 2gb
sound card:DIAMOND XtremeSound XS71DDL 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card (29.99 after 20 rebate on Newegg, expires 5/15)

Ideally, i would like to keep the total cost to under 1000$, I will OC the chip at least a little, I am not sure how adequate this system would be for an OC setup. I am thinking it may be worth while to get a e6400 and upgrade some other variables to really OC it. I am not sure if I should bother with an SLI setup at this point in time, but i would like the mobo to support it for later instances. I do some gaming but nothing to extreme.

Pretty nice, in my opinion. Heres my suggestion for RAM:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85025-6

You cant beat that price, especially after the $50 mail in rebate for 2GB of 4-4-4-12 PC6400 Corsiar XMS2, I wish I had this deal when buying my system. Also has some overclockability. If you have a little more money to spend you might want to consider some higher memory speeds for OCing.

For the graphics card, I would go with the 7900GS. It should be a much better performing card. Even though the clock speed is slightly lower, it has nearly double the pixel pipelines, and does actually have double the memory bandwidth.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=EVGA+7900GS

Its only around $50 more, and newegg even has an OEM card in stock if youre willing to do that for the same price you would have paid for the retail 7600GT!

yes sweet deal on the RAM, to bad it is OOS. bookmarked it to try again this weekend.
Agree, if the 7900 fits the budget, that is the one to get. eVGA is a great company to buy, like Newegg, they will go the distance to support you.

I just tried placing the order and I am currently in Panama. I am making these purchases in anticipation of my arrival back in the states on the 29th. Anyway, they wouldn't process the order because i am out of the country. They must have checked the IP address. The rebate expires the 24th. I'll have to figure something else out when i get home or see if another retailer has it at that price. I've ordered off newegg and it hasn't been a problem.

ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus ATX Intel Motherboard, but for 20$ more i can get the commando, or wifi board.

some of the old chips show new prices, but you can't buy them until MOnday. New chips come out Sunday the 22nd.
You should go for a e6400, save money and have a good o/c'er.

The corsair ram is onsale and in stock @newegg for 130 after rebate. I am going to order that, the evga 7900 gfx card and the asus p5n32-e sli plus mobo. I still need to select a chip and psu. I am looking at the hiper 580w psu. From what I've read, there is only a 4 pin power connector. I can't seem to find what type of power connector the asus board takes. Also, I am still stuck on the chip to get. I feel like for 100$ the e4300 would be better. Can i get a descent OC with the items i have? What about the e6420? its only 40$ more to go from the e6400 to the e6600. I am adding up different scenarios to get an idea of total costs.
thanks in advance

Depends on the budget, the e4300(or 4400) or the 6420 are nice chip to o/c, save your money for now. The Hiper is a good PSU, also check the Corsair and Seasonic ~500W

For $1000.....get a 4300, 2 gigs cheap G.Skill 800 RAM, a Gigabyte 965P-S3 mobo (or a Biostar 965PT), that PSU, Coolermaster 534 case, and an 8800GTS 320mb. I'm serious. It'll push your budget right to the very limit, but that system will kick A$$ and overclock like a champ.

Your money, unfortunately, is being spent in misguided areas. CPU is overkill, mobo is overkill, and you're skimping on a graphics card big time. Your system list needs better balance. Price out what I suggested and see where you end up, you might be very pleasantly surprised. :)

i have two western digital 7200 rpm 100 gb sata drives already, along with optical drives. Ive already ordered the case and the corsair ram for 130$. After rebates with the e6600 and asus mobo i want it comes to 846$. I also already have a monitor keyboard, mouse etc. How much is that gfx card? I am not a serious gamer, and want my computer to be pretty quiet, thats why i selected the antec 180. That asus board also supports SLI so i was thinking in the future i would do the SLI setup.
