Win2k Hard drive into XP machine

Can anyone please advise ...

1. I have an old slow DELL PC with windows 2000 with low memory .

2. I also have a different fast COMPAQ PC with lots of memory and this has windows xp home on it.

MY QUESTION IS CAN I SWAP THE TWO HARD DRIVES FROM THE TWO PC's SO I END UP WITH the WIN2k HARD DRIVE in the FAST COMPAQ PC and THEREFORE SPPEEDING IT UP.

What problems / issues am I liekyl to come up against?
Will the registry settings pertaining to my hardware get scrwed ?
Is this straightforward to do?

I have too much software pre-installed to warrant a complete rebuild/ reinstall.

how is the one drive going to speed up the compaq box? hard drives are all commonly 7,200 RPM, doesn't really get any faster, have you actually done a comparison of the technical specs to be sure one drive performs better than the other?

to answer your question, you can try ghosting what you have on the compaq drive on the dell drive, you'll have to have them both in the compaq to be able to do it, i don't really know how reliable ghosting would be though
