Internet goes on and off

In the past few days I have been having a strange problem with my internet/network(I have DSL), it will work for anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of hours, but then suddenly stop. I have tried resetting the router and modem, disabling and then enabling the network(Which works some of the time, but only temporarily, sometimes brings up an "Internet connection" icon in the network connections, which is impossible to turn on or delete). Can anyone help me on this weird problem. Also it affects all the computers on the network not just mine.

Contact your service provider and make sure its not they're issue. They can also check your DSL modem and confirm it looks ok.

I called them up and since they are based very close to where I live they sent someone over who fixed the problem, the cable modem was damaged so they replaced it. Anyway dont need any more help on this anymore.
