xp has been on this computer for over 3 years .. patched & upgraded & software tried / uninstalled .. ect.

my original xp sp 1 disk will not do an over lay any longer .. when i try to use the disk i get an 'newer version installed' message.

I purchased a new 250 gig segate for $69. at bestbuy .. wow!
want to 'start over' with xp & service patches & apps.

WILL MS allow me to use my 'out of date' xp sp 1 disk?

& if i put xp on the new boot drive can I make the old boot drive a secondary drive w/ my patched xp on the old HDs C: partition?
or should I just discard the old HD?

thanks in advance.

More Information

Windows XP SP1 includes 48-bit LBA support for ATAPI disk drives. With this support, you can use hard disks that are larger than the current 137 GB limit. By default, support is enabled in SP1. To determine if you are running SP1, right-click My Computer and then click Properties. On the General tab, Service Pack 1 will be listed under "System."

You can hook up your patched drive and use it as a data drive.
remember to change the jumpers and position on the cable, if it is PATA.
