Upgrade to XP

My cousin asked if I could reformat his comp due to virus issues, he currently has the XP Home upgrade installed. Since I do not have acopy of 98 on hand, could I use my full copy of XP Home to get the OS running with the serial off his upgrade disk. Thanks

Find someone who has W95, or any flavor of 98, to enable a fresh install of the "Upgrade" version.

Failing that, why don't you just try your idea and see how it goes. But I have a strong feeling that the different flavors of XP cannot mix and match keys.

Another note: If your cousin's comp got nailed with a boot sector partition virus, formatting won't fix it. A DeBug routine would have to be performed. If the re-install seems to be troublefree, all well and good!
