While a "macro installer" script is nice sometimes, I usually find it's worth the time to ensure that you have just what you want on your system and nothing more. Of course, this is my personal preference (and why I choose Gentoo and the ilk) and the "one size fits many" approach may be just what the doctor ordered, hence the beauty of choice.

Yep the printer's Linux friendly, made sure to get one with full PCL network capability and such, works great over network or USB (Dell even included a PPD file in their install cd so to let those who don't want to just blindly run an installer get things working).
Yeah, I also made sure that third-party toner was available for a reasonably price: $50 per color 4k cartridge and about $30 for a 4k black ain't bad, especially considering what ink costs
