Hello all,

I'm in the process of upgrading my system and wanted to get an idea of what PSU I should go with. Here is what I expect my system to be at the end of the upgrade:

Intel C2D E6400
2 GB DDR2 800 Memory
650i or 680iLT mobo
Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB x2 in SLI
SB X-Fi XtremeGamer
WD 150GB Raptor
WD 250GB
Sata DVD Burner

I was thinking about going with either the Corsair 620W or the Thermaltake Toughpower 700w. I would prefer to go modular which is why I choose those two specifically. I'm leaning towards the 620w, but was hoping the experts could tell me if that would be enough for my power needs for this upgrade and maybe future ones to an extent.

I think you might be pushing it with the 620w corsair. You always want to leave yourself some overhead when purchasing a PSU for things like....extra peripherals, overclocking, etc.......

The Thermaltake looks fine spec wise but I would not by a thermalcrap psu, their reputation in that department is not that great.

This one is the same cost as the two you listed before the rebate and by far is a much better built PSU. The plus side is that it has a good solid stout single 12v rail rated at 49amps.

For a system with high power draw needs such as yours single 12 rails are the way to go in all honesty.

I appreciate your input, but according to the reference list, I'm not sure how the PSU you suggested would be an improvement to the Corsair.

Corsair CMPSU 620W 50A 2 x 6pin YES ACTIVE (77%-82%) $170.00

PC Power & Cooling 610W 49A 2 x 6pin NO ACTIVE (70%-79%) $170.00

If I do need more overhead then I could lean towards the Thermaltake I mentioned or another suggested PSU.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I've learned alot today. I did state that I was looking for modular which is why I was leaning towards the Corsair. I just wanted to make sure that I was making an informative decision and I can soundly say that I am. Thanks again everyone!

The Corsair will be fine.

The pcpowercooling that I suggested is only $155.00 over on their own site. he would be nuts to pick the corsair over the pcpowercooling unit.

The Corsair unit is available for $123.90 after MIR at ZZF
