the rest well is just more info.. ok anyway

im wanting to get a new vid card, and i wanna know what you guys think

either 8800gtx, 8800GTS 640

ok.. so will either of these cards REALLY bottleneck my system bad, if so which one would be better to get? or would you guys say a SLI with 8600GTS just asking for opinions.

Ixnay the SLI, OK?
Buy the 8800 card that you want. I assume the GTX will fit in your case.

From what i read both are really solid cards that won't have any problems with just about anything you throw at it. I have a 6600GTS and have been more than happy with its performance.

I think it comes down to if you want to pay that extra premium to have the best card around, or if you're happy to settle for the second best and save a few pennies.

I don't think either of those cards are likley to bottle neck your performance in any way.

i didnt wanna go for sli, but i was thinking for cheaper reasons lol

ya thee 8800gtx will definatly fit, i have the 3D Aurora 570 case

there shouldnt be any bottleneck between the 4400+ (socket 939)
and the 8800's will there?

Well the 4400+ will definitely limit your FPS more than an 8800 in most situations but as long as it's still providing playable FPS that isn't really a problem. Currently the only game in which the 4400+ could be a problem is Supreme Commander I think, and it'd be ok even for that. You could overclock it a bit, that'd help some.

Also, a single GTX is a wiser move than a 640 GTS, but what resolution do you play at? It's possible you could just get the 320mb GTS and save a lot of money, and still max everything out. Of course it wouldn't be as future-proof so that's up to you.

sorry but, i dont like overclocking( lol i know a geek who doesnt!!!!)

ok, i usually play 1280X1024 mostly gonna play BF2(and expansions) BF2142, a few MMORPGS, guild wars and whatnot

thats generally about it. the reason i was gonna say GTX was because of the 128 instead of the 96 like the GTS .. just getting opinions.. see

imma be ording some new stuff

right now i have

AMD 64 X2 4400+
2 gigs corsair XMS ddr 400
asus A8V Deluxe (with AGP not PCI-e)
sound blaster audigy 2 platinum
with antec 400 PSU

im going to be ordering the A8N32-SLI (asus)
Pc Power and cooling 750quad
and then the video card.. sooo

im trying to figure out what the disadvantages would be if im gonna be bottle necked..

i figure if imma spend money i might as well spend it on a damn good card, so in the future when i switch up from AMD to Intel Quad ill have some pretty decent stuff.. course ill have to get diff ram and mobo lol

If you're playing at 1280x1024 a GTS 320mb is really all you need. Sure the GTX is faster but both will play any game there is smoothly at the highest settings, and the GTS is half the price.

If you're getting a new board it's kind of a shame to get an old 939 board but I guess that's really the only choice unless you want to upgrade everything or get an AGP card. There's an AGP version of the x1950Pro, that's a decent card though it's got nothing on the 8800s obviously.
