Hi,

Trying to put together an order for parts for my next computer. I have been told XP does not come with SATA drivers so you need a floppy drive in order to load SATA drivers from a floppy during the installation process, so XP can use the SATA HD. So I need a floppy drive apparently.

However, that makes me wonder if you can even boot up XP from the CD-ROM drive if that drive is itself a SATA drive.

Do you need an IDE optical drive in order to boot up the XP install disc?

Thanks in advance.

You're getting way ahead of yourself.

If you don't enable RAID, XP will see the drives without drivers. Just make sure you have proper Boot order.

Thanks.

I am asking now because I don't want to order all SATA optical drives if I need an IDE one to install XP.
