Ram voltage- does this dictate how much you can oc?

so help me understand... if your ram voltage is 2.0, it could limit what you can OC your cpu to?

but if you had higher voltage, it will allow you to OC your cpu until the cpu is the limit?

better ram = higher voltage?

The RAM mfg. specifies the voltage and the speed at which it will run provided that voltage. So, if your RAM is speced at 2.0v. and you bump it to 2.6v. it will likely fry your RAM and do nothing for your CPU speed.

RAM voltage does not dictate your CPU's speed limit.

To clarify, RAM parameters only affect how much you can overclock the RAM, not the CPU, as the CPU is independent. In general, boosting the voltage on RAM can allow it to work at faster bus speeds and/or shorter latencies, but at the increased risk of damaging the RAM. The more you boost the voltage, the greater/faster the risk of damage.

do you really need to oc 800 mhz ram?

i mean..

at what point does ram become a bottleneck and thus need to be oc'd ?

should i buy 1000mhz ram?

or is ocing ram just for masochists?
