I can access the entire drive but when I go to Documents and Settings/dave ( my log on name) it wont allow me to access it.It says access denied. He is my problem I have a folder on my old pc desktop that had all my work files in it. I need to access that file to retrieve all the info from it. How can I access that folder from my new pc now that the old pc is just a hard drive plugged in to my system as the slave drive?

not sure why you getting that, if they are that important, I would just switch drives, boot of the old drive, save my files to a CD or something like that, the switch drives back and boot of the new drive and put the files in the new drive from the CD you saved them to.

I have done what you are doing before and never got this problem you have.

is this account an admin account you are logged in on?

I switched motherboards cpu and hard drives ( to sata2 from ide). So will it boot to the other ? I know switching all that stuff causes issues. I ll try it.

believe or not it booted and I was able to go save to another drive. Both motherboards were ECS so maybe they had some of the same drivers ??? I did have to load a few drivers but other than that it worked ok and Now I am back on the new stuff.

thanks
