Good day,

I'll keep this to the point. My system specs are a pent. 3 @ 1Ghz, 1 gig ram, 40gig hd, radeon 9600, 350watt psu, windows xp sp2. Use computer for whatever games that can run, leave it on a lot for downloading torrents, use it for school. the problem:

I am randomly losing hd space. the 40gig hd is partitioned to a 7 gig section for xp, pc-cillin 2007, and office 2003. the other partition is for downloads and games.

on the 7 gig partion i have 2.5 free gigs of space one night. the next day it was down to 1.4, then it kept going down gradually. now its down to just 150 megs and the computer is starting to lag. I use bit comet for torrents but everything downloads to the large partition and it was never an issue for months and months until now. i deleted a file from the 7 gig partition that was about 300 megs in size and the 'my computer' did not even show that the hd size had changed, infact it continued to get smaller.

1. bad/failing hd sectors?
2. virus? (although my antivirus is up to date and scans daily)
3. any ideas?

Andrew

I would try turning off system restore, but I don't know if that is causing your problem. It would save a lot of HD space especially on a partitioned 40 GB drive.

Do you use IE? Sometimes it's tempory internet folder size will become malignant.

I have already ruled that one out.

What is the size of your page file? I would manually set it at a starting and ending size of 1GB.
