I use Spysweeper 5.0 on my new dual core system but it slows down my older Athlon 1.2 768mb laptop way to much. Can you guys recomend some programs that arent so heavy on system resources?
thanks

you want a good anti spyware or you want one that is light but is not as good?

if so then what is the point of having the anti spyware if its not good?

Stay with the SpySweeper as Ed suggests.

He's a software tester, and been around the block.

I have it and love it for my personal machines and all my customers.

It's the best. Go have a cup of coffee while it's working!

The problem I have with SpySweeper 5.0 is that it often seems to start a process itself. Even when I shut it down, not just minimize, and I'm doing something off-line my system (see sig) will slow...and when I check what's using the CPU resources...Lo and behold, it's Spysweeper!

I'd prefer to be able to control it. That is, not active at all unless I manually run a sweep or go on-line. Am I missing something about how to control it?

Go into options and uncheck it to be loaded at startup.

That way you use it only when you want - which should be once-a-week. The best way is passive anyway.

Reboot to see if SS takes itself out of the Registry.

If not post back and I'll drill you down the hives - unless you know where to find "Run". If you've got reservations -DON'T DO ANYTHING FOOLISH.

Ive found Spysweeper to be the best, but its only good if u have a powerful PC. With my desktop(amd 2.6ghz X2, 2gigs) it is great. But its useless on my laptop(Athlon 1.2 768mb) it slows it down to a crawl. This is after a fresh install of XP so I know its Spysweeper slowing things down, if I remove it the computer is fine. Im looking for something thats very light on resources. Right now im trying Trend Micro Antispyware 3.0 and it seems light on resources but i donno how good it works at detecting spyware??? Any others i should look at??

I haven't experienced that. I have it on a dozen machines running 1.2 celerons with 512 of ram - no problem!

The Athlon hd fairly full?
Have other processes going?

The hard drive has nothing on it besides XP pro, only have 22 processes running total. I have XP set up as streamlined at possible on this PC, only thing running is AVG a/v, and have disabled any services i dont use. Im not the only one who has expereinced this problem with Spy Sweeper, ive read tons of complaints about Spysweeper on older computers. Its to bad because its definitly the most effective at keeping spyware off your PC, I havent had spyware on my main desktop since i installed it a year ago!!!

Im trying Spywareblaster in combination with Spyguard and it seems to work great and uses next to no resources! Neither of these is a scanner, they are meant to prevent spyware infections. So ill prolly just use one of the onnline scanners to do a weekly scan. Ill report back and let you guys now how it works out. The system runs much better and faster with Spywareguard instead of Spysweeper om this older laptop.
