Windows xp ide hd to sata hd

Hello, I have an E-machines desktop running widows xp iam currentley building a new gaming rig and iam trying to do it without buying a new copy of windows. My first question is if the new board i buy suports an ide hard drive can i use it with the new rig? will i have to reformat the drive and lose all the info on it? and finally can i trasfer the entire contents of the hard drive including the os to a sata Hard Drive and run off that? thanks for all the help with this iam sort of a noob!

clone (copy) your ide to your sata then after install run repair off the xp cd and hopefully that will do the trick.

or

take your ide put it on the new pc, run repair off the xp cd and hopefully that will do the trick.
