I have just upgraded my pc and decided to use the old parts to make a spare computer for my brother to use. I took some of the old parts out of my box and then put them in a new one but am having some problems with the graphics card.
I have a Radeon 9700 Pro made by Saphire. When I turn the pc on I seem to get random graphics mess ups, such as lines of green when in windows and even problems with graphics in the bios, lines displaying in the wrong colour.
I have installed both Vista and now XP. The graphic drivers in XP have been installed and still the problem persists. It is definitely a problem to do with the graphics card itself as I have for the moment replaced it with a very old ge force 3 ti200 and the problems go away.
Can anyone tell me if this is a problem that is fixable at all?
the 9800's and 9700's have been know to have the heatsink/fan die after a few years. thats what happened to my sapphire 9800 pro. try checking to see if the fan spins up, and you may also want to take the card out and check the heatsink to see if it's loose or if anything doesn't look right.
if everything looks ok there it may just be that the card is dying, that usually happens after a few years.
