i recently got a 8800gts 320mb video card but in css with everything on max i find myself only getting around 60fps and it drops down to 30 fps.same thing in farcry maxed in the jungle and in weeds i only get about 30 fps.i got the newest driver off nivida site and heres my system specs.
intel pentium d 820 at 3.00ghz
1 gig of ram
250 gig hard drive
600watt ultra x-fanity
8800gts 320mb superclocked
i'm having the same experience with fps dropping down to 30fps but then up again above 60fps in 1024x768 resolution when playing need for speed most wanted and carbon.
i assume nvidia card is not that stable when outputs frame rate in real life gaming compared to my old ati radeon x1900xt which was hardly down to below 50 fps when playing both most wanted and carbon at full detail.
perhaps this 8800gts will show its class when we play at above 1280x1024 resolution.
so no worries, there's nothing wrong with your card. i'm using c2d e6600, 2gb ddr2 667, sata II hdd, and still having the same problem as you are. hope the next driver version will add fps performance in real life game.
Sounds like your bogged down by your CPU and 1 Gb of Ram. Try going to 2 gb and upgrade Cpu when you can, that is if your mb can upgrade past what you have. What resolution you at?
im running at 1280x1024 and my motherboard now can handle core 2 duo but its a budget board so in summer im going to get another gig 680i and how would a e6400 do?
Athlon64x2 Windsor 4200+ EE

Micronics 430WATT

sorry for poor english...
I have same problem like you.
F.E.A.R, TES4 Oblivion, Company of Herores...
first time I run these games, wow frame-rate, its just wonderful...
but sometimes I could see frame-rate strikes bottom...
I did all of things what you actually think...
(v-sync, hdd format, changing drivers...)
I searched whole internet for this problem, but couldn't get any solutions.
some of 8800GTS users have same problem here my country.
in my view most of 8800GTS users will have same problem, but they just cannot feel it or don't care that problem, I think...
first time, I thought it's because of my low watt PSU (Power Supply Unit)
I have 430watt one.
But after saw your post, I think it's not because of PSU.
maybe we should expect better drivers
p.s : how about the possibility that 8800GTS 320MB just have really serius problem within its HARDWARE????
Hey Guys, same problem here in Dawn Of War Dark Crusade.
1280x1024+4xAA+16xAF+Max in game details except medium shadows.
it was better with my previews MSI X1900XTX at the same settings. i think it's a driver problem.
