I am running a NETGEAR WGR614v6 and I have been using it for several months, without any major problems, until today.

Earlier today, a thunderstorm rolled through the area, so I unplugged my PC as well as the modem and router from their outlets. After the storm passed, I plugged everything back in, only to find that the router is not working properly.

I plug into the modem and it works fine, when the router is plugged into it however, the modem's Ethernet light does not come on.

On the router, the status of the lights are as follows:
-Power: ON
-Test: OFF
-Wireless: OFF
-Internet: ON
-Ethernet 1-4: ON

Weird thing is, I only have Ethernet cables plugged into slots 1 and 2, and for some reason 3 and 4 are also on. I have tried resetting the router to factory default settings, but it doesn't respond no matter how long I hold the button down. I can not access the router while I am connected to it either.

Did you also disconnect the cable / phone line (which ever) from the modem?

No I did not (on cable).

Nevermind, I solved the problem.

Suddenly the router lights decided to blink normally, but the Internet did not work. However I could reconfigure the router, and it appears that its MAC address got fubared somehow.

Oh well, all good now. Next time I might just let the lightning fry the thing (heh).

My guess is you had a surge come in through your cable - just enough to scramble the router (at least temporarily), but not enough to kill it or the modem.
