So I downloaded this program to mask my IP adress called Hide IP Platinum 3.31.

I have now unstalled the program, deleted all cookies and scanned for spyware.

But my PC keeps showing with an IP address from Saudi Arabia.

Why is this happaning?

How can I get my IP adress back.

I have a 2nd computer on my network, I never installed anything on it, and that one is working fine.

any solutions?

thanks

well here is the deal, all of those apps change your ip addy but why are you doing that for is what is important.

if you wanna real good one, ghostsurf is a good one, however with all of these apps you have to remember this, all of them are tractable , which means that if you are doing something that you don't want to be traced back to you none of these apps are good.

to be untraceable you need to find and test your own ip, the best app to do that with would be charon, charon will scan the Internet for proxies (ip addresses) and show you their status also.

once you find a the one you want to use then you put it where I just directed you to that you found the ip address that you deleted. that is where you would put the proxy address then the ip ;)

I told you all of that to tell you this, if you are using those apps for things you don't' want to be traced then forget them you need to scan for you own, if you are doing it for security reasons then stop, everything you do while using a proxy is being recorded on the server that the proxy belongs to, any password and etc you enter while using a proxy is being recorded, also hiding your ip provides just about zero security to you.

hope that helps, have any questions fire away, otherwise good luck http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/9609/headbangernu4.gif

@Ladic : You could try this : ( what I type between quotes , you need to type it without the quotes , of course, it's just to make it clearer )

Go to "Start" --> "All programs" --> Accessories --> Command Prompt

or

Go to "Start" --> "Run" and type "cmd" ( without the quotes , of course ) and hit Enter.

A MS-DOS like window will open.

Now type "ipconfig" ( again , without the quotes ) and hit Enter.

The now brings up the LAN settings and you will see your current IP address there as well.

Now , to release your current IP address , you need to do the following :

Type "ipconfig / release" and hit Enter.

Now you will loose your internet connection , because you released your internet connection now.

Now you need to do the following :

Type "ipconfig /renew" and hit Enter.

Normally , you will get a new IP address from your ISP's DHCP server.

It's best to restart your computer , so that you will get a new IP address.
Your computer will automatically check if that IP address that you got after doing the ipconfig /renew command , is still valid. If it is , you will get that IP address.

If not , you will get a new one automatically.

actually that would not remove the ip addy that was inthere from teh other app, that just renews the ip of the pc but the app will overright it ;)

easier way is what I told him and he has got it already to go ;)
