I ask this question here instead of just calling Time-Warner and asking
them, because the people at TW Tech Support know next to nothing about
CableCard. In fact, they are chock-full of erroneous information.

When you first get a CableCard, you install it into its slot and let it
download channel information from the cable company. Eventually, it comes
up with the number of analog and digital channels it has identified. At
that point, your cable company authorizes your particular cable package and
those channels then come into your TV. So far, so good.

But what happens when the cable company later adds more channels? For
example, Time-Warner here will, at some point, presumably add the local WB
station's HD channel to the digital lineup. Or add Bravo HD and other HD
channels, over time, along with other non-HD digital channels.

Do I need to reset the CableCard from time to time, ask it to look for
channels, in order to receive these newly-added channels?

I have Googled for a source of general information like this about CableCard
but, so far, have been unable to find any.

I have TWC cablecard service in Houston. I ran into an issue where my HD
channels were not working. I called them from work and they were able to
send the missing chanels with my TV turned off. Hope this info helps

Twice in a week (each time on a Saturday...hmmm....) I have suddenly gotten
a message box onscreen instead of the HD program I was watching: "CableCard
Error...Report Error Code 161-6 to your cable operator...Press OK to
continue." When I do, I find that I get none of the pay channels, such as
the HD tier, HBO, any digital channels that you would pay extra for. I do
get local HD channels and most analog and basic digital channels.

The problem goes away when I turn off the TV, pop out the CableCard, put it
back in, and turn the TV back on again. All channels back to normal.
