Alright, I've been debating on what card to choose for my new build - the 8600gts (fits my budget) or the 8800gts320. gaming wise, either would work as i only need to max settings on WoW. i'm not building this as a gaming machine, but as an htpc and gaming capable rig. my question is about video playback and the difference in the hardware architecture between the two.

after reading this article i'm confused even more about which way to go because of this part of it:

"The new video processing engine will only be found on the GeForce 8600 and 8500 at the moment and are actually embedded within the G84 core. Hence, the older but faster GeForce 8800 series will not have this hardware, giving rise to the possibility that there will be lower CPU utilization numbers on a system equipped with a GeForce 8600/8500 as compared to a more expensive system featuring a GeForce 8800 GTX. NVIDIA has said that they believe users who have chosen the more powerful (in 3D performance) GeForce 8800 GTX are enthusiasts who are likely to possess very capable systems. For these users, gaming performance is paramount and the GeForce 8800 is still extremely competent for HD video playback, especially coupled with the high-end CPUs found in these systems. Therefore, for the near future, we are unlikely to find the new VP2 and bitstream processor on the GeForce 8800 (not even in their upcoming GeForce 8800 SKU)."

My issue is that i think the 86 would be fine for my needs, but keep getting mixed views on it when you could spend about $50 more and get a hell of a lot better card, BUT that would mean i'd have to change from the e6600 to one of the e..20's or overclock the crap out of an allendale in order to maintain my budget which, according to that article, would in turn make it difficult for the 88 to process the hd content. no, i'm not going to have an hd/blu-ray quite yet, but i will once the prices come down on them so i want this thing future proof. So which card? sorry if this is all jumbled - i'm just really aggrivated now as i was about to pull the trigger on my parts...btw, other parts of the system to make either card a viable option will be 2gigs 800mhz ram, 650i mobo, decent antec psu.
