Data Execution Prevention

every time i open my external hard drive im getting the DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION. I can just drag it accross the screen and carry on working but in the end all the folders i had open just close and i have to start again. I have way to many files to work out which one is causing the problem. Is there any way of turning it of?
Im not even sure what it all about.
