2.4GHz should work nicely, but a minimum 1GB of decent RAM will make the most difference. 2GB would be nice, but 1GB is fine for most apps(just disable all the unneeded startup services, apps). I run mine with 1GB, and have it leaned down to ~330MB RAM @ idle....leaves>600MB for apps. GL :)

I have my athlon 64 3000+ OC'ed to 2,18Ghz wich works perfectly with vista. The ram is important in vista, CPU doesn't mather that much.

cheers man , thats useful info. been wondering how much of 4gig would be eaten by vista. Could you expand on that info ? (Im still on xp). Is that with/without "aero"/desktop thing feature .....or does that just gobble gfx card ram. Any other info most appreciated.Which vista version is that ?

Well, as more or less minimum comfortable, most people agree on 2GB of RAM for Vista. About the CPU, most probably it's a 2.2GHz 130nm A64 and they were pretty hot beasts, so you need at least something like an ArcticFreezer64Pro or a bigger boy to squeeze a 2.4-2.6GHz OC out of it.
My favorite S754 CPU is this:

because of the 90nm Venice core, with the same cooling setup as the first, you can get 2.7-2.9GHz out of it.

smudgeeThis is VISTA RC1 5600(BETA). Aero-Glass works good. This is a P4 2.4A@ 3726/512MB(usually 1024)XFX 6600GT 128MB. Actually, isn't "that" bad with 512MB also....but i wouldn't go below 1024MB. I don't have any peripherals on it(Printer/Scanner,etc),therefore i was able to disable a lot of services. No remote access, etc. Here's a pic of Task manager(318MB @idle) and pics of my services.

Task Manager:

Hope those help, there's still a little more tweaking i can do. GL :)

You are a a gentleman 1Tanker , thanks.

Thats pretty good i guess , for so many services running.

Not important ,but could you give me nod if thats with anti virus running too.

I feel confident about 4gig ram being almost 4 gig now.

I've found that with SuperFetch in Vista, the more RAM you have, the more the OS will use of it. Which is a good thing IMO, as the money I spent on RAM won't be wasted. SuperFetch is an awesome feature in Vista.

And tanker, that snippet tool in Vista is pretty handy huh? :)
