my sister bought a pc about five years ago, with genuine sticker on it and it came with two emachine restore image disks. But now i've upgraded her computer the image disks crash because of the new hardware. So how can i install windows xp on it because they never supplied her with a standalone cd? i don't know any1 who has a copy otherwise i'd use that and use her serial code.

You have two options:

1. Attempt to fix what's there. For this you need to "borrow" an XP cd from anybody, the same flavor as yours, and run a Repair install. That means going to the second screen that offers to repair an existing Windows. (press Enter to pass the first screen)

2. Purchase XP and install fresh. Shop around - I've seen legit sales of Home for $60 & Pro for $75 at software sellers on the web. I'd avoid Ebay.
