Using a Motorola HS850 with an Audiovox PPC6600. Works perfectly for phone
calls but I'm looking for a way to make it work for listening to MP3s and
other audio output.
Motorola says it won't do that. Hacks I've found pertain to Windows CE but
my phone is Windows Mobile. I'm not sure if I should try them.
Anybody know if this is a deficiency in the BT profile, BT stack, Windows
OS?

I don't think it is a deficiency, it's a "feature". It is pretty much how
all phone capable WM devices work it seems, Phone Editions and Smartphones.
Nothing official here, just my view. If you have a phone, and your BT
headset is connected, it is idle until a call happens, whether you place it
or you get it. It is however connected. If the audio profile forwarded other
than phone sound to your headset, it would forward everything, alarms, key
clicks stylus taps, everything, all the time, while it is connected. That is
what happens with a non-phone PPC that supports the headset profile. I
don't suppose most folks using a BT headset with a phone would want all the
noise the minute they connected the headset, especially not during calls.
Unfortunately there isn't the option to do just phone stuff sometimes and
everything other times, so just phone stuff is what you get. I believe the
hacks attempt to give you everything, but the option to turn off everything,
when you want to go back to normal phone BT headset. Don't know if they work
though. Those things tend to be pretty device specific.

Thanks for that.
What are my options if I want to get all that noise in my ear? I don't see
why they would port all the sound the device makes to a wired headset when
plugged into the jack, but not a BT headset. Power management?

Not my Ipaq 6365 with Jabra BT250. When the headset is on, *all* PPC sounds
occur via the headset. I use it to listem to MP3s; if a call comes in the
ringing overrides the music, then I can pick up the call and hear the voice;
once the call is ended, the music resumes.

So HP took a different approach. That's interesting. I hear a lot of
requests from people with other PPCPE devices that want to listen to music
or e-books through the headset. Neither of my Smartphones work that way
either. I would expect the reasoning is power on the headset. If you are
listening that is essentially into your talk time.
